Air Force Common Admission Test

Overview

AFCAT is conducted by the IAF to select Class-I Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (Technical and Non-Technical). The test is held twice a year, once in February and once in August/September. Both male and female applicants can apply through AFCAT for Short Service Commissions in the Flying Branch and Permanent Commissions/Short Service Commissions in Ground Duties, both technical and non-technical positions in the Indian Air Force. The Air Force Selection Board selects candidates based on their performance on the online test and the interview. Ground Duty (Technical) candidates must pass both the AFCAT and the Engineering Knowledge Test.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is preparing to begin registration for the IAF Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) 1/2022 on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. For the course beginning in January 2023, applications will be accepted online for the grant of Short Service Commissions in the Flying Branch and Permanent Commissions and Short Service Commissions in the Ground Duty Branch. Eligibility

Candidates must meet the IAF's criteria for nationality, age restriction, educational level, and physical standards in order to be qualified for the AFCAT test. The following are the AFCAT eligibility requirements:

  1. Nationality: Applicants must be Indian citizens.
  2. Age limit: There are varying age limitations for different branches of the test. The age limit for each branch is listed in the table below:
    • Flying Branch: The applicant's age should be between 20 and 24 years. Max. age limit for Commercial Pilot License is relaxed up to 26 years.
    • Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch: The applicant's age should be between 20 and 26 years.
  3. Marital Status: Candidates under the age of 25 must be single at the time of the course's beginning. Widows, widowers, and divorcees under the age of 25 are also ineligible.
    • Married applicants over the age of 25 are entitled to apply, however, they will not be supplied with married housing or allowed to live with family throughout their training time.
  4. Educational Criteria: The educational requirements for the various branches are shown below:
    • Flying Branch: 10+2 (Maths, Physics) with 60 percent in Class 12. Graduate degree in any discipline/BE/BTech/cleared section A and B of the Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India from an acknowledged university with a 60% average.
    • Ground Duty (Technical Branch): 
      • Engineer, Aeronautical (Electronics): Passed 10+2 with 60 percent in Physics and Mathematics, as well as a four-year Engineering/Technology degree, OR
        • Having passed both Sections A and B of the Institution of Engineers (India) Associate Membership examination or the Aeronautical Society of India Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers with 60% in the disciplines specified by the examination authority.
      • Engineer, Aeronautical (Mechanical): 10+2 with 60 percent grade in Physics and Mathematics and a degree or integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology, OR
      • The IAF requires that members obtain at least 60% in selected fields prescribed by the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India Associate Membership examinations.
    • Ground Duty (Non-technical branches):
      • Graduation with a minimum of 60% in any subject, OR
      • Cleared section A&B of the Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or the Aeronautical Society of India examination from an acknowledged university with 60% marks.
    • Education: MCA/MBA or MSc/MA in Physics/English/Mathematics/Statistics/Chemistry/ International relations/ Defence Studies/ International Studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Mass Communication/ Journalism/ Public Relations with a percentage of 50% to 60% in Graduation.
  5. Medical & Physical Standards: To be eligible to carry out their tasks and obligations adequately, candidates must be medically and physically healthy.

Exam Pattern

  • The AFCAT exam is split up into two sections: online exams and AFSB tests. The online test is mandatory for all enrolled applicants. Questions from the General Awareness, Verbal Ability in English, Numerical Ability and Reasoning, and Military Aptitude Test are included in the test. Mechanical, Computer Science, and Electrical & Electronics questions are included in the EKT, which is held for applicants in the Technical branch. AFCAT has a maximum score of 300 points. EKT's exam paper carries a total of 150 points. There are three phases to the AFSB test. Officer Intelligence Rating Test, Picture Perception Test, and Discussion Test make up the first stage, while Psychological Test, Group Tests, and Interview make up the second. Applicants for the flying branch must participate in the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS). The final merit list is compiled using the results of the online exam as well as the AFSB interview.

Exam Application Process

The following is an overview of the AFCAT selection process:

  • Release of Application Form: Interested candidates must complete and submit an application form as well as pay their fees online. 
  • Admit Card Distribution: The admit card is distributed via the official website. Candidates must log in with the needed credentials to download their admission cards.
  • AFCAT Exam: The AFCAT exam is administered online and consists of questions from the Verbal Ability in English, General Awareness, Numerical Ability and Reasoning, and Military Aptitude Test categories. The test will last two hours and will be worth 300 points. Computer Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical & Electronics Engineering questions are included in the EKT test for Ground Duty (Technical) branch applicants. The test will last 45 minutes and will be worth 150 points.
  • Result Announcement: It is announced online. To view the results, candidates must log in using the proper credentials. Candidates are chosen for the AFSB test based on the results of the online test.
  • AFSB test: There are three phases to the AFSB interview. Officer Intelligence Rating Test, Picture Perception Test, and Discussion Test are all part of Stage I. Psychological tests, group tests, and interviews make up Stage II. For applicants in the Flying Branch, the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) will be used.
  • Final Selection: Candidates are chosen based on their performance in the online test and the AFSB test.

 

Cut Off: 

The AFCAT test is used to select candidates for the Indian Air Force. This exam is separated into three stages: the online exam, the AFSB interview, and the medical test. After each stage of the test is completed, the written exam cut-off scores and total cut-off marks will be announced. The following is a summary of the AFCAT test stages:

  • Online Test: To advance to the next round, applicants must take this online exam and earn the necessary cut-off marks. The cut-off marks for the Online and EKT exams will be available on the official website.
  • AFSB Next Round: Candidates who qualify for this round must choose a test location and date on the internet. Following the completion of this set of exams, the Final Merit List will be issued.
  • Medical Exam: Candidates will be called in for the medical exam based on their ranks in the Final Merit List, following which the selection process will be concluded.

Exam Center

Candidates can select up to five exam cities while filling out the AFCAT application form. Applicants will be assigned AFCAT exam centres based on their selections. Exam centres are assigned based on the number of applications received. Any request to modify the exam centre is disallowed by the examination authorities.

Candidates should check their email for the registration number in order to download the AFCAT admission card. After a successful registration, applicants will get an email with their registration number.

Q5. My AFCAT applications have been submitted twice. Am I going to get my admit card for AFCAT?
