Introduction

Mumbai University, (The University of Mumbai) is one of India's oldest and most prestigious universities. It has possibly the greatest geographical region under its control, spanning more than 600 kilometres from Thane district to Sindhudurg district. To achieve its goals, it relies heavily on teaching-learning, research, consulting, and innovation. The University is committed to creating and maintaining world-class facilities, as well as creating knowledge in frontier areas of human understanding while keeping social requirements in mind. Correspondence Courses were introduced at Mumbai University in 1971-72 largely for the benefit of students who would otherwise be disallowed access to higher education. The Directorate of Distance Education was renamed the Institute of Distance Education in 1993. As a result, it was designated as a 'University Institution.' It is the country's seventh university to launch a traditional Distance Education Program. Mumbai University Institute of Distance & Open Learning provides a variety of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Science and Technology, Commerce & Management, Humanities, Inter-disciplinary, and other streams.

Personal contact programmes, counselling and counselling, study material, virtual learning centres, library facilities, and community radio are just a few of the university's student support offerings. Admission

The university only accepts admissions applications through its official website. Candidates who wish to apply for admission to UG/PG/Diploma programmes offered by Mumbai University's IDOL can do so online by following the instructions.

  • Candidates can go to the official website of the University.
  • Open the registration form and select Menu.
  • After registering, you will receive an e-mail with a User ID and Password.
  • Fill in all of the essential and correct information, such as, documents, questionnaires, educational qualifications, subjects, details of a bank challan or payment details.
  • Finally, save the application form before submitting it.

Steps to Apply:

  • Go to the MU-IDOL official website.
  • On the webpage, click the “Click Here For Fresh Registration” option to begin new registration.
  • Those who have already registered earlier, must enter a username and password in the "Registered Log-In" area.
  • Fill in the necessary information on the application form, and then submit the application form by clicking the "Submit" button for final registration.
  • Registered candidates will be emailed their Username.
  • The applicant must re-login using the e-mail-assigned username.
  • A comprehensive Application form will be displayed. Enter every information accurately.

The candidate must additionally upload the following documents:

  • The most recent photos of the candidate.
  • Scan of the candidate's signature
  • Candidates must pay the registration cost using a credit or debit card or by using Net Banking. Candidates will be notified of successful payment by SMS and email.
  • Before submitting your application, preview it by clicking the "NEXT" button.
  • Finally, save and print the Application Form for future reference.

Mumbai University Eligibility Criteria

The candidate must meet the qualifying standards in order to be admitted to Mumbai University IDOL. Except for Ph.D. and MCA programmes, all courses are selected on merit. The applicant for MCA must pass the university's entrance exam. The applicant for the Ph.D. programme must pass the university's entrance exam as well as an interview.

The exam paper can be written in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, or English by the students. The courses are organised in semesters. The first semester (summer semester) begins in April, and the second semester (winter semester) begins in November.

B.A. / B.Sc. / B. Com Students who have passed 10+2 / 3 years Diploma from an acknowledged board/University.
M.A. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field from an acknowledged university
M.Com Bachelor’s degree in B. Com/BAF/BBI/BMS from an acknowledged university. 
M.Sc.  (Computer Science) Bachelor’s degree in B.Sc – IT / Maths / Statistics / Physics / Computer Science / Electronics or B.E. / BCS with 45% marks. (40% for reserved category)
MCA Graduation in any stream with min. 45% marks (40% for reserved category) and Maths at 10+2 level
PGDFM Graduation in any field
PGDORM Graduation in any field (minimum 2 years of work experience)

The only thing students need to do is keep in touch with the lecturers or a guide on a regular basis via the PCP (Personal Contact Programs).
