Mumbai University, (The University of Mumbai) is one of India's oldest and most prestigious universities. It has possibly the greatest geographical region under its control, spanning more than 600 kilometres from Thane district to Sindhudurg district. Correspondence Courses were introduced at Mumbai University in 1971-72 largely for the benefit of students who would otherwise be disallowed access to higher education. The Directorate of Distance Education was renamed the Institute of Distance Education in 1993. As a result, it was designated as a 'University Institution.' It is the country's seventh university to launch a traditional Distance Education Program. Mumbai University Institute of Distance & Open Learning provides a variety of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Science and Technology, Commerce & Management, Humanities, Inter-disciplinary, and other streams.

The university only accepts admissions applications through its official website. Candidates who wish to apply for admission to UG/PG/Diploma programmes offered by Mumbai University's IDOL can do so online by following the instructions.

The candidate must meet the qualifying standards in order to be admitted to Mumbai University IDOL. Except for Ph.D. and MCA programmes, all courses are selected on merit. The applicant for MCA must pass the university's entrance exam. The applicant for the Ph.D. programme must pass the university's entrance exam as well as an interview.
The exam paper can be written in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, or English by the students. The courses are organised in semesters. The first semester (summer semester) begins in April, and the second semester (winter semester) begins in November.

Ans. There are two semesters at Mumbai University Idol: winter semester and summer semester. The first half is the winter semester, which begins in November, and the second half is the summer semester, which begins in April at the completion of the winter semester.
Ques. Do IDOL students at Mumbai University receive the same degree as ordinary students?
Ans. The weightage for both degrees is the same. At work front, the degree is treated the same as a conventional degree. There is an advantage to studying a course from MU's IDOL; students can complete their course while also working. The only thing students need to do is keep in touch with the lecturers or a guide on a regular basis via the PCP (Personal Contact Programs).
