Admission

For Indian students
All Indian students are required to take the Symbiosis for Design (SEED) online entrance exam which will be held on Sunday 15 January 2023. No candidate is eligible to apply for admission to SID without a valid SEED score. SEED scores are only valid for one year.

How to appear for SEED?
 
Register online for SEED at www.sid.edu.in. The option to pay the SEED fee and print Admit Card is available online. A student aspiring to an undergraduate program at Symbiosis must follow the steps below:

  • Register online by paying 2950/-
  • Test turnout on 15 Jan 2023

The final selection is based on the candidate's combined performance on the Symbiosis for Design (SEED) entrance exam, portfolio review, PRPI assignments, and personal interaction, as well as information provided by the candidate in the application form and in the chosen area of specialization.

SEED Exam Mode: Online Proctored (PC/Laptop Based Exam)

 Exam Timings: One hour from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the day of the test.

SEED Exam Test Structure: SEED will be a 60-minute exam with 60 questions. The questions could be MCQ, Match the Columns, Fill in the blanks, picture-based, and comprehension based. The paper will contain a mix of questions on visual sensitivity and judgment, observational, perceptual, and reasoning skills, problem-solving, basic knowledge of logic in science and mathematics, arts, crafts and culture, design, and the environment.

Symbiosis Institute Of Design Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must have passed 10+2 (any stream; e.g. Science, Commerce, Arts, etc.) or equivalent 10+3 Diploma approved by State Board of Technical Education with a minimum pass of 50% (SC/ST - 45%) marks obtained in the final examination to enter the above program. 

A candidate appearing for the final examination of the 10+2 degree or 10+3 diploma program can also apply provided that the examination results should be declared by June of the admission year or earlier to be eligible for the above program.

The candidate should have the creative abilities and skills necessary to study design, as well as the adaptability to the situations that the profession requires.

Preference would be given to candidates with relevant portfolios.

Symbiosis Institute Of Design Placements

Communication design:

Graphic Design: Graduates of graphic design find job opportunities as graphic designers, brand identity developers, logo designers, visual image developers, multimedia developers, packaging designers, typography and publication designers, and so on in various fields such as advertising, graphic design, communication, and printing. Industry and Profession, Audio Visual Production, UX/UI Design, and so on.

Video Film Design: VFD graduates work in the film, television, and advertising industries as producers, directors, assistant directors, cinematographers, and editors. Many of them work with online media. Some of them even work independently under their own production units.

Animated Film Design: AFD graduates work in the fields of advertising, experimental animation, VFX, 2D animation, 3D animation, pre-production, and character design in films, TV channels, advertising, marketing, electronic content development, and other related fields.

User Experience Design: UED graduates are placed in leading software companies in the field of UX & Interaction Design in the role of Interface Designer, User Experience Designer, Web Designer, Mobile Application Interface Designer, Game Designer, and so on.

Industrial design:

Product design: Product design graduates are part of design teams both in large design and manufacturing plants and in smaller independent design firms. They work as part of a larger team and create products from concepts to drawings to prototypes to production in Transportation, White Goods, Furniture & Interior, Engineering Products & Systems, Consumer Goods, Craft Products, Accessories, Personal User Products, Kitchen tools, and appliances, New Age Electronics and IT products and systems, UX design, interaction and so on.

Interior Design: Graduates of interior design work as independent interior designers or collaborate with well-known design agencies or developers in the field of residential and commercial design, furniture design, exhibition, and retail spaces. The study of materials, lighting, decors, furniture, prototyping, and graphics form an integral part of interior design.

Fashion design:
Fashion design graduates work with fashion, luxury, and lifestyle as fashion designers, freelance design consultants, stylists, costume designers, fashion forecasters, illustrators, entrepreneurs, academics, fashion merchandisers, and buyers.

Fashion communication:
Many Fashion Communication graduates start their own independent design practice, while others work as fashion stylists, retail space designers, visual merchandisers, event and scenographers, art directors, fashion and trend forecasters, brand visualizers, and graphic designers. Our graduates work in all aspects of the emerging global fashion and lifestyle industry with well-known brands.
