Introduction

Shivaji University, founded in 1962, is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Great Maratha Warrior and founder of the Maratha empire. Dr. Radhakrishnan, India's then-President, dedicated it on November 18, 1962.

The University has jurisdiction over three regions: Sangli, Kolhapur and Satara.

Shivaji University's Center for Distant Education is one of Maharashtra's finest distance learning colleges. There are up to 279 connected colleges and recognised institutes at the university. It oversees and teaches a variety of courses for students interested in online education.

The university provides undergraduate and graduate programmes in the faculties of management, arts and humanities, commerce, computer science, and technology.
