Introduction

One of Kerala's major universities, Mahatma Gandhi University, is a prestigious educational institution dedicated to meeting the people of Central Kerala's higher education needs. The University is located on the spacious 110-acre Priyadarsini Hills Campus in Athirampuzha, 12 kilometres from Kottayam. It also has two satellite campuses in Kottayam. On October 2, 1983, the University of Kerala was established, and it has authority over the revenue Regions of Idukki, Ernakulam, Kottayam and parts of Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta.

Through its 17 University Departments, 1 International and Inter University Centre, 7 Inter University Centres, 10 Inter School Centres, 77 Govt./Aided Affiliated Colleges, 10 Autonomous Colleges (of which 8 are Colleges with a Potential for Excellence), and 200 Unaided Affiliated Colleges, the Institution offers a wide range of programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, M Phil, and doctoral levels.

It provides education in both interdisciplinary and traditional disciplines such as Science, Social Science, and Humanities, as well as professional disciplines such as Legal Studies, Pedagogy, Pharmacy, Technology, Nursing and Engineering. It has are 52 specialisations available for Bachelor of Arts (B.A), Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) - 43 , For Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) - 14, Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) - 8, For Master of Arts (M.A) -  27, Master of Science (M.Sc) - 44, Master of Commerce (M.Com) - 10, and for Master of Technology (M.Tech) - 6.

Mahatma Gandhi University was awarded the Chancellor's Prize for Best University in Kerala in 2020. The prestigious prize is worth Rs. 5 crores and comes with a gold-plated trophy.

The award is given based on the varsity's performance in broad components such as academics, teaching and pedagogy methods, student profile and achievements, academic governance, and other achievement.

The philosophy underlying distance education is that a democratic society has the responsibility to provide facilities for the acquisition of knowledge and the improvement of skills to those who, for whatever reason, are unable to do so through the conventional system.

The growing number of aspirant students has increased the demand for expanding educational opportunities through non-traditional channels. The School of Distance Education began operations in 1990. Contact class facilities that had been provided at various locations within the University's jurisdiction. What should be emphasised is that the school has been able to administer the curricula of various programmes of study via distance mode of instruction while maintaining excellence and quality.

Admission

Admissions are based on an entrance exam known as the MGU-CAT exams. 

Registration begins in May and runs until the end of July. Applicants for the UG and PG programs can purchase an application form from the official website. The deadline for completing the online application is August 13th.

These are the steps to submit the form:

  • Login to the official website
  • Register and verify your ID.
  • Fill in the required information
  • Upload the important documents
  • Pay the application fees, and
  • Submit the form.

Documents needed for admission to MG University 2022:

  • Copy of Marksheet
  • Conduct Certificate
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Copy of Aadhaar Card
  • Caste Certificate
  • Migration Certificate

 

Admissions to all programmes at MG University are handled through a CAP (centralised allotment process). It also holds an entrance exam (MGU CAT) for all courses offered on the University campus. However, for admission to its MBA and PhD programmes, the University also accepts national-level entrance exams such as KMAT, CMAT, CAT, UGC NET, CSIR NET, GPAT, GATE, and others.

Registration for the CAP B.Ed and CAP PG is currently open. 

Candidates can register by going to the University's official website. 

The application deadline for CAP B.Ed is September 6. 

Furthermore, the second allotment list for UG CAP and IP CAP is set to be released in September.
