Overview

The West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) administers the WB SET, or West Bengal State Eligibility Test, for the appointment of Assistant Professors in West Bengal's universities and colleges. WBCSC administers the exam for 30 subjects, each with two papers. Candidates must get a particular proportion of marks to be considered for associate professor positions.

Highlights
On August 18, the WB SET notification was released. WBCSC will issue the WBSET admit card online one week before the test, and the exam will be held offline (pen and paper format) on January 9, 2022. Eligibility 
Before applying for the West Bengal SET test, aspirants must confirm their eligibility. The following sections provide point-by-point information on the WB State Eligibility Test:

  • Age restriction: There is no maximum age restriction for applying to the WB SET 2021 entrance test.

  • Educational Criteria: 

    • A minimum of 55% (for general category) in their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from a UGC-recognized university/institute.

    • Those belonging to the OBC (non-creamy layer)/SC/ST/PWD/EWS (Economically Weaker Section)/transgender category must have obtained at least 50% marks in a Master's degree or comparable examination.
    • Aspirants studying a Master's degree or an equivalent programme, as well as those who have taken their final year exams and whose results are still pending, or whose qualifying examination has been postponed, may also apply for the exam.
    • PhD degree holders who passed their Master's level exams by September 19, 1991, are eligible for a 5% aggregate mark relaxation when taking the SET.
    • Candidates must only appear in their post-graduate subject. Candidates whose post-graduate subject is not included in the list of subjects may appear in a comparable field.

Exam Pattern 
The WB SET is made up of two papers. Both papers are made up entirely of objective type questions.
Paper I – 50 questions – 100 marks – 1 hour duration
Paper I consist of 50 objective style compulsory questions, each worth two points. These questions are intended to assess the candidate's reasoning abilities, understanding, divergent thinking, and general awareness.

Paper II – 100 questions – 200 marks – 2-hour duration
Paper-II comprises of 100 objective type compulsory questions, each carrying two marks and depending on the subject chosen by the candidate.

Cut Off
The West Bengal College Service Commission assesses candidates based on pre-set cut-off scores. Candidates must get a minimum qualifying score in order to pass the exam. The qualifying marks must be earned out of a total of 300 points (papers I and II). The table below shows the minimal marks that applicants must get in order to pass the test.

Selection Process

  • Application Process for WBSET: WB SET Exam applicants can apply online on or before the deadline. Complete the application process on the official website. Candidates must pay the examination fee using a debit card, a credit card, net banking, or by paying offline. Through E Challan at any United Bank of India branch in India.

  • Admit Card for WBSET: Candidates who successfully apply for the WB SET are given an admit card. To sit for the test, you must have a printout of the WBSET Admit Card as well as a valid identity evidence. Also, double-check that all of the information on the WB SET Call Letter is valid.

  • WBSET Exam: Candidates must bring one photo identity card - Aadhaar Card/ PAN Card/ Driving License/ Passport – to the WB SET test centres, in addition to the WB SET admission card. They will not be permitted to attend the exam centre unless they have the above-mentioned documents.

  • WBSET Answer Key: The commission releases the answer key when all candidates have completed the Exam. If you discover that the answer key indicated by the commission is inaccurate within the specified date and time, you may challenge it. 

  • WBSET Result: Following the publication of the Answer Key, the commission will publish the WB SET result. The results are usually available within a month or two of the examination date. Candidates will be chosen based on their performance in the written test (both the papers of SET-in aggregate).
