Introduction

TIET (Thapar University) was founded in 1956. UGC (University Grants Commission) and DEC (the Distance Education Council) have both accredited the university. It is India's leading private engineering university and was ranked 2nd among 13 Indian Private Institutions by Asia. Thapar University is accredited by NAAC with a “A” grade. TIET includes six schools, eight departments, and eight centres that offer a variety of UG, PG and doctorate degrees. The TIET centres are available to meet the academic needs of the University. Admission to the courses is based on merit in previous qualifying examinations. The University also recognises management national level exam scores such as the XAT, GMAT, CAT, CMAT etc.

In April 2007, the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Patiala started offering B.Tech. programmes via distance education. These programmes wisely merged the flexibility and inventiveness of the distant mode with the characteristics of the on-campus education system. Distance education is being used by corporations as well as institutions as multimedia and communication technology progress. Proponents of distant educational practice that the method has the potential to reach thousands, if not millions, more people at any time and from any location. Admission

TIET provides academic programs including UG/PG degrees, and Integrated BE-MBA degrees at the postgraduate level, and Ph.D. degrees at the doctoral level. Admissions are offered online at the University.

Steps to Apply Online:

Go to the website of TIET to apply for admission.
Select the Application form and register yourself with a user id or password.
Fill the form properly by following the instructions given at the website.
Once the application form is completed, submit it.
Take the printout of the same as it is required during document verification at the time of counselling.
The fee will be paid by Demand Draft, and the application form, along with the DD, should be mailed to the university.

Ques 1. Can I get admission into B.E./B.Tech at Thapar Institute without taking the JEE mains?
Ans. Thapar University’s admission for BE and B.Tech are dependent on a candidate's JEE Main valid score. Candidates who match the eligibility conditions can register online at the TIET website.

Ques 2. Is it possible to get admission with 70th percentile?
Ans. The qualifying criteria for obtaining admission to Thapar Institute include a minimum of 60% (55% for SC/ST applicants). You can also take the JEE main exam as 70% of the total BE/BTECH seats are filled on the basis of JEE main test percentile merit.

Ques 3. Can I get admission in M.Tech without going through GATE exam at Thapar?
Ans. TIET offers M. Tech admissions based on GATE as well as an offline test for non-GATE candidates.

Ques 4. Does TIET provide scholarships?
Ans. The Deemed-to-be University provides many merit-based scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students. Aside from that, it provides a fellowship specifically for PhD students.

Ques 5. Does Thapar University has option for lateral entry?
Ans. Thapar University Lateral Entry admission would be granted based on the merit of marks obtained in the Diploma by applicants applying to a certain program.
