Introduction

TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) is a public research university with several campuses in India. It was created in 1936 and is Asia's oldest institute for professional social work education. In 1944, the institute was renamed the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). And, in the year 1964, the Government of India selected Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) as a deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC (University Grants Commission Act), 1956.

In 1986, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) opened a rural campus in Tuljapur, MH. And, in 2011, two off-campus campuses in Hyderabad and Guwahati in. TISS additionally provides training, teaching, research, and development support from centres settled throughout India, together with Leh, Ladakh, and Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar.

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) provides PhD degrees in Health Studies, Gender Studies, Management and Labour Studies, Rural Development, Development Studies, Media and Cultural Studies, Public Policy, Disaster Studies, Education, Law and Social Work. Through its Open Distance Learning programme, the Deemed-to-be University also offers MA and PG diploma programmes in Elementary Education and Digital Library Management.

TISS was awarded a 'Great Place to Study' by Forbes India in a 2018 feature on Indian Institutes. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was given the highest rating, a 'Diamond Ranking (Overall)' in the QS-I Gauge rating process.

TISS is a prestigious educational institution in India. It trains human resources and social work professionals, conducts research on social problems and social sciences, and publishes and disseminates this information for the benefit of society. It is also one of the country's few institutes that conducts field projects to demonstrate the effectiveness of organised and methodical welfare programmes. In addition to teaching and training, the faculty is involved in field-action programmes.

Ques. Why should I enrol in the M.A Rural Development programme at TISS Mumbai?
Ans.
TISS Mumbai is well-known for its Rural Development course, which promotes long-term well-being by utilising existing people, resources, and the environment. It involves advanced policymaking and practise learning that assists students in understanding the issues of Indian rural diversity.

 

Ques. How do TISS students get recruited?
Ans.
TISS students are recruited in two ways. The first one is Summer placement; the Students are hired for a two-month summer internship. And, the second one is final Placement, the students in their final year are hired for entry-level full-time positions.

 

Ques. What is the eligibility for the TISS Diploma in Hospital Management?
Ans.
TISS offers the following hospital management courses:

  • PGDHA (Hospital Administration) (Executive) (require 2 year of work experience)
  • PGD in healthcare quality management (require 3-years of experience)
  • Graduation with the relevant experience is required for Diploma courses. TISSNET/TISSMAT with graduation is essential for all other programmes.

 

Ques. Are there Scholarship Programs available at TISS Mumbai? 
Ans.
Scholarships are available for SC/ST/OBC students. Scholarships will also be awarded to students based on their merit and economic level. To be eligible for the scholarship programme, students must provide a copy of their caste certificate. Students who received high grades on the merit list will be awarded a scholarship directly by the college.

Ans.
International applicants must apply through TISS Mumbai's official admission portal and provide supporting documentation. Ans.
TISS does not administer a separate exam for Development Studies other than TISSNET. You can gain admission to TISS bypassing TISSNET.
