North Orissa University, Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education, Mayurbhanj (NOU) was founded by Government of Orissa vide Notification No. 880 dated July 13, 1998, under Section 32 of the Odisha University Act, 1989 (Act 5 of 1989). North Orissa University's Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education in Mayurbhanj is one of the top open universities in Odisha for Open and Distance Education courses.
It was separated from Utkal University and began operations as an affiliating college in 1999 at Takatpur (98.84 sections of land) in Baripada in the Mayurbhanj District of Odisha. The University Grants Commission acknowledges the University under Sections 12(B) and 2(f) of the UGC Act (1956), with effect from February 15, 2000 and June 21, 2006, respectively. As a state university, it is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) as well.
The college's regional scope includes the Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar areas of northern Odisha, which are densely inhabited with ancestral networks. NOU's campus encompasses 103 schools (Mayurbhanj-65 + Keonjhar-38), including two autonomous colleges, two law colleges, and three teachers' education (B.Ed.) colleges that educate numerous students at the alumnus and post-graduate levels.
North Orissa University's Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education in Mayurbhanj provides Post-Graduate instruction in eight disciplines at Baripada grounds and five topics at Keonjhar grounds via specific customary divisions. Furthermore, the Baripada Campus offers self-financing courses in 15 topics. Furthermore, the University provides M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes in the regular offices.
Among the many new traditional courses planned for ownership's Baripada grounds, management approval has been received for the opening of eight more courses.
Four regular P.G. Divisions have received departmental exploration support from the UGC and DST under the Special Assistance Program (SAP) and FIST programmes, respectively. Several specific tasks have been funded by the UGC, DST, DAE, CSIR, ICSSR, and other offices.
In addition, the University's Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education (DDCE) provides 17 general and expert courses at various levels.
A state-of-the-art Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) has been implemented by the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education at North Orissa University in Mayurbhanj, together with grade point assessments and semester evaluations. Apart from language classes, this is the technique of instruction used in all English courses.
