CBSE Students need to know! Board Exams twice a year from 2025-26

News

CBSE Students Alert: According to sources, the Ministry of Education has requested that the CBSE arrange the logistics of holding board exams twice a year starting with the 2025–2026 academic year. They indicated that the idea of implementing a semester system has been abandoned. According to the sources, principals of schools will meet with the ministry and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) next month to discuss holding board exams twice a year.

To accommodate another round of board exams without affecting the undergraduate admissions schedule, the board is currently figuring out how to best arrange the CBSE academic calendar.

Board exams will be held twice a year per the Ministry of Education's New Curriculum Framework (NCF) to give students plenty of time to perform well and retain the highest score.

The possibility of holding two board test editions at the end of the 2025–2026 academic year is being considered, but the specifics still need to be worked out. But there's no intention to put the semester system into place," the source told PTI.

Similar to the engineering entrance exam JEE, students will have the opportunity to sit for the class 10 and 12 board exams twice a year. He stated, "They can select the top score, but it will be entirely voluntary and unforced. But this is not the first time that board exam reform has been attempted. In 2009 there was the introduction of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) for Class 10, however, in 2017 the board reinstated the previous system of year-end exams.
