In Himachal Pradesh, the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education administers the Himachal Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (HP TET). Candidates are tested to determine their eligibility to teach in Himachal Pradesh public schools in the following subjects:

The HPTET is administered once a year by the Himachal Pradesh State Board of Secondary Education. HP TET may be divided into two sections for two distinct types of candidates: those applying for teaching positions in grades one through five and those applying for teaching positions in grades six through eight.

Eligibility

  • Before applying for the HPTET Examination, make sure you meet the eligibility requirements. The eligibility criteria for various positions filled by the HPTET examination may differ.
  • Candidates must be at least 18 years old when applying for the HPTET.
  • Candidates must be Indian citizens.
  • It will be convenient for students who have a Himachal Pradesh domicile certificate.
  • Students in their final year of study in the aforementioned programmes are also eligible to apply for HPTET. The eligibility criteria for various positions vary slightly.

Syllabus

The HP TET syllabus differs for each paper, including JBT, Shastri, TGT (Arts), TGT (Medical), TGT (Non-Medical), Language Teacher, Punjabi, and Urdu. The HP TET syllabus includes topics such as child psychology, development, pedagogy and teaching-learning processes, paper-related disciplines, and others. Each topic and paper's detailed curriculum is provided below. Candidates must first review the HP TET curriculum before beginning their preparation.

  • TGT (Arts, NM, Medical): Child psychology and development, pedagogy, and teaching-learning processes will be addressed, with a focus on the educational psychology of teaching and learning applicable to children aged 11 to 14 years.
    • Questions will center on comprehending the features, needs, and psychology of varied learners, as well as interactions with learners and the traits of a successful facilitator of learning.
    • Other sections' questions will be based on areas from the approved syllabus for classes 6 to 8. The complexity level of questions and linkages could reach the HPBOSE 10+2 level.
  • Shastri TET: Questions on General Awareness, comprising Himachal Pradesh, Current Affairs, and Environmental Studies.
  • JBT TET: Child psychology and development, pedagogy, and teaching-learning processes will be addressed, with a focus on the educational psychology of teaching and learning applicable to children aged 11 to 14 years.
    • Questions will center on comprehending the features, needs, and psychology of varied learners, as well as interactions with learners and the traits of a successful facilitator of learning. Questions from English literature and grammar, Hindi literature and grammar, and mathematics will be based on the syllabus for classes 6 to 8, with difficulty levels up to 10+2 on the HPBOSE scale. Questions from Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, current affairs, General awareness, including Himachal Pradesh.
  • Language TET: Questions prepared on Hindi Course of bachelor's degree level of HP University.
    • Questions on General Awareness, comprising Himachal Pradesh, Current Affairs, and Environmental Studies.
  • Punjabi TET: Questions depending on Punjabi course of bachelor's degree level of Patiala University. Questions on General Awareness, comprising Himachal Pradesh, Current Affairs, and Environmental Studies.
  • Urdu TET: Questions depending on Urdu Course of bachelor degree level of J&K University. Questions on General Awareness, comprising Himachal Pradesh, Current Affairs, and Environmental Studies.

Exam Paper

The HP TET exam paper will include questions in both English and Hindi in a bilingual style. The Shastri TET question paper, on the other hand, would be written partly in Sanskrit and partly in Hindi, whilst the Punjabi/Urdu TET question paper will be written entirely in Punjabi/Urdu/English.

Exam Application Process

The following stages are included in the HP TET selection process:

HP TET application form: To begin, candidates must fill out the HP TET application form online at the HP BOSE official website.
HP TET admits card: Once the application process is completed, candidates must download their HP TET admit card/hall ticket from the exam's official website.
HP TET exam: Next, candidates must take the HP TET exam in offline mode for the subject of their choice.
HP TET result: Following the completion of the exam, HPBOSE publishes the HP TET result on its official website. Candidates who pass the written exam are given HP TET certificates, which allow them to apply for teaching positions in Himachal Pradesh schools.

Cut Off:

The cut-off marks for the HP TET exam are the minimum qualifying marks used to shortlist candidates for the next stage of the recruitment process. Aspirants must achieve category-specific cut-off marks in order to be considered eligible. The qualifying marks vary based on the category of the candidate:
