DEVI AHILYA VISHWAVIDYALAYA DISTANCE EDUCATION

Madhya Pradesh University | 1964

Introduction

Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, formerly known as the University of Indore, is a state university established by an Act of the Madhya Pradesh Legislature in 1964. The university was inaugurated by Dr. Zakir Hussain, then Vice President of India. Initially, the jurisdiction was limited to the city of Indore. Later, its jurisdiction was expanded to include seven tribal-dominated Regions in the Indore division: Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa and Burhanpur. It thus serves the educational needs of Madhya Pradesh's most industrially developed district, Indore, on the one hand, and the State's seven tribal and rural backward regions on the other.

In 1988, the university was renamed 'Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya' after the Maratha Empire's Holkar Maharani 'Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar.' The word university means "vishwavidyalaya" in Hindi, so the university is known as Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya.

Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya was one of the first Indian institutions to offer B.Ed and MBA degree programmes, and it also operates medical and dental institutions.

DAVV has a well-equipped sports centre, cultural centre, playground, and other student welfare departments for extracurricular activities. There is also a placement cell, a career counselling and opportunity guidance cell, an alumni cell, and an equal opportunity cell. There are six girls' and six boys' hostels, as well as a coffee shop and a day-care centre, bank, health care centre and post office at the university campus.
