Introduction

Jai Prakash University is located in Chapra and was founded on 22, November 1990 by the enactment of Section 3b of Bihar State Universities Act of 1976 with its Head Quarters at Chapra. The Colleges were situated in the Chapra district and also were automatically transfer to the
J.P. University. The territorial jurisdiction of Jai Prakash University is stretched over the whole of Saran Division Comprising into three districts such as Chapra, Siwan, and Gopalganj. There are 21 constitute Colleges and also 11 affiliated institutes in which two colleges are deficit Grant Colleges. There are also many other institutes which are providing professional degrees.

Earlier, all the above Colleges were now under the J.P.University, These all above Colleges had been established and were functional much before the J. P. University. Chapra is the oldest College and was established in the year 1938 of this University, and also occupies a Special Status in the field of higher education. The Bihar Government has been decided to develop the institute as the Centre of Excellence and as Community College.

All these Colleges are registered with the UGC under Section of 12(f) and now are getting U.G.C. grants. Dept. of Science and Tech. , Govt. of India under the special package to the Bihar State and also has selected into seven colleges of the University to improve of laboratory, etc. Each college will be given Rupees fifty lacs for this purpose.
