Introduction

The University of Calicut is Kerala's largest university. It is Kerala's second university, having been established in 1968. The University seeks to foster excellence in education and research in its catchment areas of Northern Kerala, which have traditionally been on the periphery of Kerala's academic map. The University places a high value on the development of high-quality human resources as well as the encouragement of productive research that benefits both local communities and humanity overall.

The University was established as a result of a government plan that partitioned Kerala University. With the motto 'Nirmaya Karmana Sree,' the University has been able to overcome all obstacles and emerge as Kerala's largest university. With 34 postgraduate and research departments, 3 centres and 395 affiliated colleges, it has become a source of hope and enlightenment for hundreds of thousands of young men and women in Kerala.

The university has two off-campus centres, one in Thrissur and the other in Wayanad, a tribal empowerment centre in the state's Western Ghats. Aside from these, there are self-financing centres located throughout the jurisdictional area. To improve student access, information centres have been established in all five districts under our jurisdiction. The University has as many as 395 colleges affiliated with it. 106 of these are in the Kozhikode Region, 73 in the Thrissur Region, 124 in the Malappuram Region, 75 in the Palakkad Region, and 17 in the Wayanad Region. Our primary goal is inclusive growth toward excellence, which provides opportunities to the most disadvantaged and marginalised people, and we thrive by utilising all of our strengths to achieve it.

The University of Calicut Distance Education, formerly known as the "Institute of Correspondence Courses and Continuing Education," began operations in the academic year 1981-82. It is now one of the university's major departments, as well as one of the major distance education providers.
