Introduction

Anna University, named after the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Late Dr.C.N.Annadurai was established on 4th Sep 1978 The main campus of the University is spread over 189 acres. There is a second campus of Anna University at Madras Institute of Technology, Chrompet which is extended over 52 acres, and a third campus located at Taramani, Chennai is spread over 5 acres. In 2011, all the Engineering Colleges in the State of Tamil Nadu were brought under one head which again lead Anna University to re-convert into an affiliating type University. Currently, 13 Constituent Colleges, 3 Regional Campuses at Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore and 593 Affiliated Colleges (Government, Government Aided and Self-Financing Colleges) are under Anna University along with 4 University Department Campuses (CEG/MIT/ACT/SAP Campuses).
