UGC: NTA will held the CET for UG, PG courses in central universities from next session

According to the UGC, NTA (National Testing Agency) will conduct the CET (Common Entrance Test) for UG (undergraduate) and PG (postgraduate) programs from next academic session i.e. 2022-2023.

University Grants Commission has also mentioned that for getting admission in PhD courses, marks of UGC -NET (University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test) can be used, if possible.

A letter to vice-chancellors of all universities by UGC - “Accordingly, all central universities are advised to take appropriate measures for the Common Entrance Test from the academic session 2022-2023. These tests would be conducted in minimum 13 languages in which NTA is already conducting JEE and NEET examinations,”

The commission said that -“The Common Entrance Test may also be adopted by the willing state/private universities/deemed to be universities.”

Through NTA, the NEP 2020 (National Education Policy 2020) - proposed a CET for all universities to serve as a premier, expert, autonomous testing organization to offer high-quality common aptitude test, as well as specialized common subject exams in the sciences, humanities, languages, arts, and vocational subjects in higher education universities.

It also said that - “The committee held several rounds of discussions regarding the modalities in details for conducting the CET. Thereafter, a meeting was held with the vice-chancellors of all central universities on November 21 to discuss the recommendations of the panel.”

Earlier, The MoE (Ministry of Education) has announced that the that admission to universities will be fully based on CET from the academic session 2021-2022 but the plan could not take off due to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
