UGC increases amounts for SRF, JRF, and other fellowship scheme

UGC revised amounts for SRF, JRF, and other fellowship schemes, only current beneficiaries will be eligible for the fellowship rates that have been revised as of January 1, 2023.


With effect from January 1, 2023, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to modify the amount of junior and senior research fellowships available in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Approximately 31,000 students will benefit from this.

 

JRF and SRF
The current monthly fellowship amounts for JRF and SRF have been raised from Rs 31,000 and Rs 35,000 to Rs 37,000 and Rs 42,000, respectively, in accordance with the revised rates. The UGC has also approved a comparable increase for junior and senior Savitribai Jyotirao Phule fellowships for single girl children.

Postdoctoral Fellowship
For the higher postdoctoral fellowship, the Dr. DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship (DSKPDF) amount has been raised from Rs. 54,000 to Rs. 67,000 per month for the duration of the fellowship. The post-doctoral fellowship is now worth Rs 58,000 for the first year, Rs 61,000 for the second year, and Rs 67,000 for the third year.

The SC/ST post-doctoral fellowship program for women has also been improved. The fellowship has been increased from Rs 47,000 to Rs 58,000 for the first year, from Rs 49,000 to Rs 61,000 for the second year, and from Rs 54,000 to Rs 67,000 for the third year onwards. Only current beneficiaries of the designated UGC schemes will be eligible for the increased fellowship rates.
