Overview

After the Regular Indian Army, the TA (Territorial Army) is the second line of defense. The present mission of the TA is to relieve the regular army of static responsibilities and to support the civil government in dealing with natural disasters and maintaining necessities. Officers and Junior Commissioned Officers can join the TA. Ex-servicemen and civilians are recruited as Territorial Army Officers (i.e. non-departmental). The recruiting procedure for Territorial Army Officers is done for civilians (i.e. Non-Departmental).

Eligibility

The following are the qualifying requirements for Territorial Army Civilians and Ex-Servicemen positions:

  • Nationality: Applicants must be an Indian citizens.
  • Age Limits: Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 42 on the application deadline.
  • Educational Requirements: Must have earned a bachelor's degree from an acknowledged university.
  • Physical Requirements: Applicants must be physically and medically fit in every way.
  • Employment Status: Gainful employed.
  • Criteria for Ex-Servicemen in the Territorial Army: Only Ex-Service Officers between the ages of 18 and 42 are eligible to apply. Candidates must have completed their education and be physically and psychologically fit.
  • Regular Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, GREF, Para Military, and other forces personnel are not qualified.

Exam Pattern

Candidates who apply for the Territorial Army exam are required to take a written exam, a personal interview, an SSB, and a medical exam. According to the Territorial Army exam structure, the written test consists of two papers: paper 1 and paper 2. 

  • Questions from Reasoning and Elementary Mathematics are included in Paper 1. 
  • Questions from General Knowledge and English make up Paper 2. 

There are a total of 100 objective multiple-choice questions on each exam. Each paper receives a total of 100 points. Candidates will receive one mark for each correct response, and there will be a penalty for incorrect answers. Candidates must score at least 40% in each section to qualify. The total qualifying percentage is 50%.

Exam Application Process

The following is the procedure for selecting officers, civilians, and ex-servicemen:

  • Officer Civilian Selection Process in the Territorial Army: Candidates who have successfully applied for the exam are invited to a screening session. Additionally, to a written examination, candidates are required to attend a preliminary interview conducted by the Preliminary Interview Board at the territorial Army group headquarters. For final selection, successful candidates must pass examinations administered by a Service Selection Board (SSB) and a Medical Board. The number of male and female positions available is determined by organizational needs.
  • Ex-Servicemen Territorial Army Selection Process: The Army Headquarters Selection Board in the Additional Directorate General Territorial Army screens ex-service officers. Final selection is made after an Armed Forces Clinic medical examination and a police verification.
