Indian Navy Entrance Test

Overview

The Indian Navy is one of the most prominent naval forces in the world, responsible for protecting our country both above and below the ocean's surface. A national-level entrance test for officers in several branches of the Indian Air Force, including the Executive, Educational, and Technical branches, is the Indian Navy Entrance Test, or INET.  Selected applicants are awarded a Permanent Commission and a Short Service Commission and train at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala. The test is given twice a year to an unmarried male and female applicants.

Eligibility

The primary qualifying criteria for the INET test include education qualification and age limit. Candidates are only permitted to apply for one job profile for which they are qualified based on their educational background. The following are the detailed educational qualifications and age limit:

  1. SSC Armament Inspectorate Cadre, NAIC (M/F) – SSC/HSC and B.Tech./B.E. with at least 60% marks. There is an age Limit of 19 to 24 years.
  2. SSC ATC (M/F) - Completed 10th and 12th with 60% marks. Possess an engineering degree in any stream with 60% marks. There is an age limit of 20 to 24 years.     
  3. SSC Observer (M/F)/ SSC Pilot (MR) (M/F)/ SSC Pilot (Other than MR) (M) - Completed 10th and 12th with 60% marks. Possess an engineering degree in any stream with 60% marks. There is an age limit of 18 to 23 years.
  4. SSC Logistics (M/F)- B.Tech./B.E. in any stream or MCA/ MBA/M.Sc./ B.Com./ B.Sc. with PG Diploma in Finance with 60% mark. There is an age limit of 19 to 24 years.
  5. SSC X IT (M/F) - B.Sc. (IT)/MCA/M.Sc. (IT)/ B.Tech. (Computer/IT) with 60% marks. There is an age limit is 19 to 24 years.
  6. SSC General Service Hydro Cadre (M) - B.Tech./B.E. in any specialization with minimum of 60%. There is an age limit of 19 to 24 years.
  7. SSC Engg. Branch General Service (M) - B.Tech./B.E. in Mechanical/ Marine/ Instrumentation/ Production/ Aeronautical. There is an age limit of 19 to 24 years.
  8. SSC Electrical General Service (M) - B.Tech./B.E. in Electronics/Electrical/Power with minimum 60% marks. There is an age limit of 19 to 24 years.
  9. SSC Education (M/F) - M.Sc. (Maths/Operational Research) or B.Sc. (Physics) with minimum of 60% marks. There is an age limit of 20 to 24 years.

Syllabus

The English Language component of the INET assesses a candidate's grammar and vocabulary competence. The following are the English topics that are required:

  • Direct and Indirect Speech, Parts of Speech, Active and Passive Voice, Vocabulary, Sentence Completion/Corrections, Grammar, Usage of words, Antonyms and Synonyms, Idioms and Phrases, Comprehension, Punctuations, etc.
  • Reasoning and Numerical Ability: 
    • Questions are asked from topics such as Numerical, Spatial, Reasoning, and Associative Ability,    Series Completion/ Missing Numbers, Unscrambling, Sequences, Mensuration Formulas, Ratios and Proportion, Spellings, Average and Volume, Coding and Decoding, Speed and Distance, Decimal Fraction, Expenditure Problems, Market Price, Time and Work, Factoring (LCM and HCF), Cash Price, Simple Interest and Compound Interest, Percentage, Profit and Loss etc.
  • Mathematical Aptitude and General Science: 
    • Probability, Geometry, Algebra, Basic Computer Science Arithmetic Ability, Set Theory, Statistics, Basic Trigonometry, Number systems, Measurements, Food, Nutrition and Health Physiology and Human Diseases, Chemistry-Carbon and its compounds, Work, Energy and Power, Electricity and its Applications, Nature of Matter, Bases & Salts, Atomic Structure, Light, Current, Magnetism, Metals and Non-Metals, Force and Gravitation, Acids, Sound and Wave Motion, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Periodic Table, Heat Temperature, Universe.
  • General Knowledge:
    • Discoveries and Current Affairs, Climate / Environment, Geography, History of India, National – {Animal, Bird, Flower, Monuments, Anthem, Flag, Sport, Emblem, etc.},  
    • Countries – Currencies, Languages, Capitals, Full Forms, Common Name, Abbreviations, 
    • Eminent Personalities, Geographical Neighbours, Important National Facts, Defence and Wars, Sports and Championships, Heritage, Civics – Constitution of India, Economics, Religion, Books and Authors, Politics, Dance, Art, Awards, Culture, Entertainment, Freedom Movement.

Exam Pattern

  • The INET test pattern includes 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) from English, Reasoning and Numerical Ability, General Science and Mathematics Aptitude & General Knowledge. Each segment has 25 questions.
  • The total number of marks available for each section is 100, and the duration for the test is two hours.
  • Four points will be granted for each right response. Every incorrect response will result in a one-point deduction.  Answering questions incorrectly could result in a negative marking.

Exam Application Process

  • Application Form for INET: The INET application form is now available online. Candidates who meet the qualifying requirements may submit their application forms via the official website. The application cost is payable online.
  • Application Form Shortlisting: The application form is shortlisted based on the candidates' preferred entries/branches and their normalized graduation marks.
  • Admit Card for INET: Candidates will receive their INET admit card one or two weeks before the test. Candidates who successfully complete the application form can access the admission card via the official website. Candidates must enter their email address and password to download their INET admit card.
  • INET Examination: The duration of INET test is two hours. The test consists of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions covering English, Reasoning & Numerical Ability, General Science, Mathematical Aptitude, and General Knowledge. Each part will be worth 100 points, with a one-point penalty for wrong answers. 
  • INET Result Declaration: The INET results will be available on the official website. To view the results, candidates must log in using their email address and password.
  • SSB Interview: The SSB Interview is divided into two parts. Candidates who pass Stage 1 are invited to Stage 2. Those who do not pass Stage 1 will be retaken on the same date.
  • Medical Examination: Candidates who are recommended for SSB must pass a medical exam. The Pilot Aptitude Battery Test, followed by an aviation medical exam, is required for the pilot entrance exam.
  • Merit List and Appointment Letter: The merit list is compiled using the combined INET and SSB interview scores. Candidates selected by the SSB and confirmed medically fit would be appointed for training depending on the availability of vacancies in various branches/cadres and the all-India merit of each branch/cadre.

 

Cut Off:

To be eligible for the SSB round, applicants must score a certain number of points. Qualified applicants will be notified of the SSB through email and their registered mobile phone number. The INET cut-off is qualifying in nature for all sections. However, the total marks acquired should be greater than the stipulated cut-off marks.

Exam Center

  • The INET exam will be held at the following locations. Candidates must pick the exam city when completing the INET application form. Military SSBs are located in these locations where applicants will be examined. Candidates who are selected for SSB will be paid for their travel expenses, which will be comparable to the ticket of a 3rd Tier AC. Candidates must carry the INET admission card, as well as a Government ID evidence, to the exam centre; otherwise, candidates will be denied entry.
