The University Grants Commission (UGC) has forbidden the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) from offering open, remote learning, and online programs for the January-February 2023, July-August 2023, and January-February 2024 sessions, the organization announced on Tuesday, April 18.
The Commission has urged students against registering for any distance learning, open enrollment, or online courses.
According to an official notification from the UGC in May 2021, NMIMS University in Maharashtra was discovered to be in violation of UGC regulations regarding its Centre for Internal Quality Assurance, the caliber of its Self Learning Material and e-Learning Material, and the nomenclature of its Centre for Distance and Online Learning. Due to these transgressions, the university is not permitted to provide online or remote learning courses until the February 2024 session.
The institute did not follow the UGC's policy on fee refunds. The statutory authority received numerous complaints concerning the same from various stakeholders. The institution will be able to offer open, online, and distance learning courses from July through August 2024. "following an inspection or on-site visit by the UGC and after obtaining the necessary UGC approvals,"
Following the University Grants Commission's (UGC) announcement that it had barred the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) from providing open, distance, and online programs for the January-February 2023, July-August 2023, and January-February 2024 sessions, the institute released a statement stating that they are "processing [the notice] and working with all concerned to address the issue and resolve the situation at the earliest possible time."
The UGC requirement is not applicable and has no bearing on any of our full-time and/or offline programs, according to the NMIMS, which issued a statement after the commission advised students against enrolling in any online, open, or distant learning courses.
Tuesday's official UGC notification stated: "Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Maharashtra has not adhered to the UGC regulations and is in gross violations with regard to the functioning of the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), quality of Self Learning Material and e-Learning Material (e-LM), and nomenclature of Centre for Distance and Online Learning."
Online course participants have been responding on their social media accounts in the meanwhile. They are contesting the UGC's choice. A user who purports to be an NMIMS student is requesting a refund, but many people are pushing the commission to reverse its judgment.
