Eligibility

NTA has established specific requirements for candidates. The following academic qualifications and age limit determine NET UGC eligibility:

Age Limit/ Relaxation: No age restriction is specified for UGC NET Assistant Professorships. In order to qualify for a Junior Research Fellowship, you must be 31 years old. Overall, there is a maximum age limit of 30 years old for JRF participants. The age relaxation for OBC and SC/ST, women and transgender candidates is five years (up to 36 years). And, for candidates with research experience, the maximum is five. For applicants who served in the armed forces, it's five. For those with an LLM, it's three years.

Education: Candidates must have a grade point average of 55 percent (50 percent for reserve categories) or higher on their PG or similar degree from an accredited university. Students in their final year are also eligible to take the test. As long as they pass their qualifying exam with a minimal score, they will be considered for a JRF or professorship. Additionally, PhD degree holders who completed their post-graduation exams before these exams were granted an additional 5% relaxation in the minimum mark requirement.
