For each of the four categories, the minimum eligibility criteria for taking the KTET exam are listed below:
Category– I (Lower Primary Class) |
Min. 45 percent in Higher/Senior Secondary or similar and 2 years of TTC (Trained Teachers Certificate) from the Government of Kerala, Board of Examinations, or similar, OR |
Min. 45 percent in Higher/Senior Secondary or similar and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, as defined by the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations 2002, OR |
Min. 50% in Higher/Senior Secondary or similar and a 4-year B.El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education), OR |
Min. 50% in Higher/Senior Secondary or similar and a two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education). |
Category – II (Upper Primary Class) |
BSc/BA/B.Com., along with 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education/ TTC (Trained Teachers Certificate) from the Kerala government's Board of Examinations, or similar, OR |
Min. 40% in BSc/BA/B.Com., and 1 year of B.Ed. (Bachelor in Education) as per NCTE (Norms, Recognition, and Procedure) regulations released on a regular basis, OR |
Min. 50% in Higher/Senior Secondary or similar and a 4-year B.El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education), OR |
Min. 50% in Higher/Senior Secondary or similar and 4 years of BA/BSc Ed, BA Ed, or BSc Ed. |
Category – III (High School Class) |
Min. 45 percent in BSc/BA/B.Com. and a B.Ed. degree in the relevant field (from the acknowledged universities of Kerala or have received the qualifications from any other Universities acknowledged similar), OR |
Candidates applying for Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology must have an MSc Ed degree in relevant subjects with min. 50% marks from one of the NCERT Regional Institutes of Education, OR |
Min. 45 percent marks in BA or similar, along with LTTC, OR |
Any applicant who possesses a Degree/Diploma in teaching in any topic and has been approved by the Board of Examinations/ Universities/NCTE/ Kerala Government is eligible, OR |
Candidates who have obtained their qualifications through accredited correspondence courses or Open Universities may also present certificates from any of Kerala's universities, or similar, OR |
Only the marks for the main and ancillary papers will be considered when determining the minimum criteria. |
Category – IV (Language, Specialist and Physical Education) |
Candidates interested in applying for Category IV must meet the prerequisites for the position of Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Urdu Language Teachers (up to Upper Primary Classes) |
Physical Education and Specialized Teachers, wishing to apply for the KTET IV category must meet the standards outlined in Chapter XXXI of the Kerala Education Act and Rules. |
SC/ST and differently-abled groups are eligible for a 5% reduction in qualifying marks. OBC and OEC candidates are eligible for a 3% reduction in qualifying marks.
Q1. How long is the KTET Certificate valid?
Ans. The validity of the KTET Certificate has been extended to infinity. Previously, the KTET certificate was only good for seven years.
Q2. What is the KTET exam's purpose?
Ans. The Kerala Teacher Eligibility Test (KTET) is an exam held to determine the eligibility of candidates with enough skills to teach in Lower Primary, Upper Primary, and High School classrooms in Kerala.
Q3. In the KTET exam, how many questions are asked?
Ans. Each KTET question paper has 150 questions in it, divided into four categories: Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, and Category 4.
Q4. What can I do to prepare for the KTET?
Ans. To pass the KTET Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, and Category 4 exams with high grades, you must prepare well ahead of time. Exam preparation should start with a review of the KTET syllabus.

Ans. Aspirants must meet the minimal educational requirements to be eligible for KTET Category 1, Category 2, Category 3, and Category 4 examinations. Each paper has its own set of requirements.
