Graduate Record Examinations

Overview

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is a standardized test required for admission to graduate and business school programs worldwide. It's a computer-based exam with multiple-choice questions. It helps schools evaluate how prepared applicants are for graduate-level studies by assessing their knowledge and skills. Admissions committees consider your GRE score, academic history, and other application materials to determine if you're ready for graduate-level coursework.

What is the Graduate Record Examination?
The GRE is a test administered by ETS to determine if students are prepared for graduate schools, including business or law schools. It looks at writing, math, and verbal skills in the General Test. There's also a Subject Test for specific areas like Chemistry, Math, Physics, and Psychology. Scores are out in 10–15 days, and many global schools accept them for master's and doctorate programs.

If you're eligible to take the GRE in India, you can only use a valid Indian passport for registration. Aadhar Cards won't work anymore. In this article, we'll cover GRE test dates, what the GRE exam covers, how much it costs, who can take it, how long the scores are valid, and where you can take the test in India.

The GRE Syllabus is divided into three main sections: Analytical Writing, Quantitative Reasoning (math), and Verbal Reasoning (language skills). These sections together determine your GRE score.
The main Subjects are

  • Analytical Writing
  • Quantitative Reasoning in Math
  • Verbal Reasoning( Language Skills)

Exam Paper

The GRE exam will become much shorter, going from almost 4 hours to just under 2 hours. The change, announced by ETS (the organization that conducts the GRE), means there will be fewer questions in the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections and only one essay in the Analytical Writing section. This aims to make the test less tiring for test-takers. With this update, the GRE will be shorter than the GMAT, GMAT Focus Edition, and LSAT exams.
