Exam Pattern

The First pre-pattern will be conducted with 200 questions and a time duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes. On the other hand, candidates who are eligible for the main exam will answer 200 questions for a duration of 3 hours. 

Exam Paper

  • The WBCS Preliminary Exam serves as an initial screening test that is principally focused on General Studies. Following the WBCS Exam Pattern, the exam embodies eight distinct sections, totaling 200 marks.
  • Consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions (MCQs), the WBCS preliminary written exam allocates 1 mark per question. Note that incorrect answers will lead to the deduction of marks, but the exact penalty rate has not been specified by the commission to date. The test duration is set at 150 minutes.
  • Following the preliminary phase, the WBCS Main Exam is administered, consisting of eight papers - six of which are compulsory, and an optional subject split into two separate papers. Eligibility for the main exam requires a minimum score equal to or exceeding the established cut-off mark in the preliminary phase.
  • Those attaining the requisite score in the Main Exam will proceed to the Personality Test. This sector evaluates the candidate's general awareness, personality, and characteristic traits.
  • Ultimately, selection to the final phase is dependent on a candidate's performance in both the main exam and the personality test.

Fee Structure
