Kerala State Eligibility Test

Syllabus

Paper I: Paper I of the Kerala SET syllabus comprises a total of 6 parts/units. General Knowledge and Teaching Aptitude are the topics of Paper I. These sections are centred on Language and Reasoning, General Studies, Foundations of education, Current Affairs, Learning and Evaluation, Teaching, and Communication, Technology Research and Educational Administration.

1). General Studies:

General Science (Basics- Class 10th Level)
Biology Physics
Mathematics Chemistry
Statistics  
Social Science (Basics- Class 10th Level)
Indian Polity History
Economics Geography
Humanities
Major Art forms of India Culture (Life & Society in India)

 

2). Language and Reasoning Syllabus:

Basic English Grammar Comprehension and Vocabulary
Pattern Recognition and Orders of Magnitude - Numeracy Skills Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability

 

3). Current Affairs Syllabus: 

Innovations, Discoveries and Inventions – Technology Films, Literature, Music and Performing Arts (Culture)
Events, Persons and Awards UN and Global Affairs
Right to Information and Right to Education - Indian Constitution and Politics and Recent Legislation National and International - Environmental Issues, Movements, Treaties and Legislations
Institutions of Higher Learning and Research, Scholarships and New Initiatives Sports & Games

 

4). Foundations of education:

Educational psychology, personality, intelligence, social and cognitive development (Psychological Foundations) Educational philosophy, major philosophical systems around the world, value education (Philosophical Foundations)
History of education in Kerala and India, reports and polies on education (History & policies of Education) Relation between education and sociology, social functions and impact of education (Sociological Foundations)

 

5). Teaching, Learning and Evaluation: 

Continuous evaluation, Tools and techniques, grading and feedback (Evaluation) Application, theories, learning environment, learner characteristics, learner with special needs (Learning)
Skills, techniques and approaches, methods, teaching and learning resources (Teaching Methods) Administrative aptitude, Teaching Aptitude, professional development, reflective practices.

 

6). Communication, Technology Research and Educational Administration:

Types of research, methods, basic aspects of research, tools and techniques of research (Research in Education) Basic principles of communication, Communication and Education, types of communication.
Organisational structure of educational institutions, Planning and administration at national and state level, school administration (Educational Administration) Computer networks and internet, basic computer knowledge, office tools (Computer and ICT)

 

Paper II:  Kerala SET consists of 36 subjects in total. It is strongly advised that candidates check over the full syllabus for the subjects they are interested in for a better understanding. This will assist candidates in effectively formulating a study plan, creating timetables, and establishing an appropriate routine.

No, the Kerala SET paper 1 and 2 syllabuses are distinct. Topics from General Knowledge and Teaching Aptitude are included in the Kerala SET Paper 1 syllabus. The second paper, meanwhile, contains questions regarding the candidate's chosen subject area.
