Seventy-Two Per-Cent of Employers Intend to Hire Freshers

Seventy-two percent of employers intend to hire freshers in the second half of 2024, with strong demand in e-commerce and technology start-ups. Collaboration between industry and academia is also being emphasized to better match skills with market needs, according to the TeamLease EdTech report.

 

According to a report released by TeamLease EdTeach, a provider of education and employability solutions, 72 percent of employers intend to hire boosters in the coming months. Titled 'Career Outlook Report HY2 (July-December 2024), the report was based on a survey of over 603 companies across India conducted from April to June 2024.

 

According to the report, this intention to hire fresh graduates indicates a positive trend in the job market for new graduates.

 

The 72% hiring intent represents a four percent increase over the previous half-year and a seven percent increase over the same period in 2023, indicating a gradually improving work environment for new talent.

 

“The increase in recruitment intent for freshers is an encouraging sign. It demonstrates employer confidence and provides a valuable opportunity for new talent to enter the workforce.

 

According to the report, the top three sectors with the highest hiring intentions for freshers are e-commerce and technology startups, engineering and infrastructure, and retail, with 61 percent, 59 percent, and 54 percent of employers in these sectors planning to hire, respectively. 

 

Among cities, Bengaluru leads with 74 percent of employers intending to hire freshers, followed by Mumbai at 60 percent and Chennai at 54 percent. 

 

In terms of job roles, Full-stack developers, SEO managers, digital marketing associates, and UI/UX designers emerged as the most in-demand jobs for new hires.

 

Employers are particularly looking for candidates with expertise in cyber security, cloud computing, data analytics and search engine optimization. 

 

Cooperation between industry and academia, apprenticeships

The report also sheds light on the growing importance of collaboration between industry and academia. While 70% of employers agree with improving curriculum through technical education, 62% advocate for business-school partnerships to improve educational opportunities with business needs.

 

In addition, apprenticeships continue to show steady demand. Manufacturing comes first, with 25% of employers planning to hire university apprentices, followed by engineering and infrastructure at 19% and construction and property at 11%. Among cities, Bangalore shows the highest intention to employ apprentices at 25%, followed by Chennai at 21% and Mumbai at 16%.
