National Institute of Technology Karnataka Surathkal otherwise known as NITK was established in the year 1960. The courses offered by the Institute are: 9 B Tech programmes, 10 M Tech programmes with more than one specialization in each department, M Tech by Research, M.C.A, M.B.A, MSc in chemistry and Physics and PhD programmes offered by 14 departments. The major basic facilities of NITK includes Central Library can accommodate 600 students, an Industry Institute Partnership (IIP) cell, hostel facility for the scholars, guest house, staff quarters, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, swimming pool, two shopping centres, two banks with ATM facility, an open air theatre, auditorium, one Kannada medium and one English medium school and two canteens.
