Indian Coast Guard Assistant Commandant Exam

Overview

Assistant Commandants are recruited by the Indian Coast Guard through the Assistant Commandant Exam. Asst. Commandant General Duty (Male), Asst. Commandant General Duty (SSA, Women), Asst. Commandant Commercial Pilot License (CPL) (SSA) both Male and Female, Asst. Commandant (Engineering & Electrical) (Male), Asst. Commandant (Law) both Male and Female are among the positions available for recruitment.

Highlights:

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has published a notification for Assistant Commandant General Duty, Commercial Pilot License (SSA), and Technical Officer for the 02/2022 batch (Engineering & Electrical). Online applications will be accepted from December. The e-admit card will be accessible starting in December. Starting in early January, the preliminary selection will take place. Between early February and April, the final selection will be made. A list of accepted applicants based on the merit list will be made public in June/July. In June, the training program at INA, Ezhimala, will commence.

1). Age restriction:

Assistant Commandant (General Duty / General Duty - Pilot) {Male} Born between 1st July, 1997 to 30th June, 2001
Short Service Appointment (Commercial Pilot Entry) – {Male / Female} Born between 1st July, 1997 to 30th June, 2003

 

2). Educational Qualification:

Assistant Commandant (General Duty / General Duty - Pilot) B.Tech. / BE with 55% marks from an acknowledged university,
Bachelor’s degree in Maths and Science with 55% marks at least
Short Service Appointment (Commercial Pilot Entry) 10+2 with Mathematics and Physics, with aggregate of 60% marks and commercial pilot license (valid) issued by Director general of civil aviation.
Law

Degree in Law (3 years course after graduation or Five years integrated degree after 10+2) with 60% marks.

Syllabus

Stage – I Syllabus
The test will include topics like Mental Ability and Cognitive Aptitude. The following subjects are covered in this section:

  • Verbal Reasoning: It includes Assertion & Reason, Reading Comprehension, Jumbled Paragraphs, Central Idea/ Paragraph Summary.
    • Logical Reasoning (Non-Verbal)
    • Data Interpretation
    • Puzzles

 

Stage – II Syllabus

  • This test includes Group Task, Psychological Test, Personality test (Interview). It includes the topics like Physical Health, Family, Creativity, Burnout, Abuse, Positive Psychology, Emotional Intelligence, Career/Worklife, Personality, Elder, Anxiety/Stress, Gender Role, Coping, Environment. 

Exam Pattern

This exam will be of objective type and it will include a Mental Ability Test/Cognitive Aptitude Test as well as a Picture Perception & Discussion Test (PP&DT). The aptitude exam will only be given in English. The following is the exam pattern for the Indian Coast Guard Asst Commandant:

Exam Application Process

There are two steps to the selection process: stage I and stage II.

Stage- I:
Shortlisting of Candidates: Candidates will be shortlisted for the preliminary exam or written test based on their bachelor's degree grades. For some branches, qualifying grades can exceed 60% if more applicants have higher percentages.
Preliminary examination or written examination: Candidates will take a preliminary examination in English to assess their cognitive aptitude / mental ability, as well as a picture perception and discussion test (PP & DT). Objective tests will be administered to candidates for the position of assistant commandant of the Indian Coast Guard.
Candidates must present the following documents in their original form at the exam location:

  • Copies of Admit Card
  • Colored passport size photograph
  • Marksheets/Certificates of 10th/ 12th/ Graduation (B. Tech. / BE)  
  • SC/ST certificate (if applicable)
  • Character certificate (not older than 6 months)
  • Valid Government ID proof

 

Stage - II:
Final selection: Candidates will be summoned for final selection after passing the preliminary test. Candidates will be notified of the final selection date and location on the Indian Coast Guard's official website. The examination will consist of a psychological test, a group task, and an interview (personality test).
The final selection board will suggest applicants for a medical examination, which will be conducted at the closest Military Hospital in accordance with current norms governing Assistant Commandant recruiting. Note: In addition to the above-mentioned parameters, the medical standard test will include a comprehensive medical examination of the candidates.

 

Cut Off: 

The official cut-off will be announced along with the results. Their cut-off marks help them calculate their chances of being selected for the final round of selection. Original cut off marks are based on four factors: 

  • Candidates that appeared in the exam 
  • Level of difficulty of the exam
  • Vacancy
  • Previous years cut off marks
